Short Eared Owls (Asio flammeus)

Home | Sports | Scenery | Wildlife | Aviation | Links | Contact Me

Short Eared Owls are one of the few owls that you have a good chance of seeing coursing a field or marshland during the day and particularly in the winter afternoon sunshine.
I have been very fortunate this year to be able to go along and photograph several of these birds in recent weeks in some fantastic light, with upto 3 birds in the area at any one time as they hunt the coastal marshes/wetlands and links golf courses looking for voles and small rodents.
The birds can be seen all year round but it would seem that winter is your best opportunity, but we will see........
