Well attended by Foreign air arms from Nato it was great to see so many different display routines and aircraft at one airshow, including F-18 hornet of the Finnish Air Force,Typhoon and MB339 of the Italian Air Force and the new F-16 display making its debut this year of the Turkish Air Force.

Leeuwarden Airshow 16th-17th Sept

This year the Royal Netherlands Armed Forces held their Open Day at the northern airbase of Leeuwarden.
The 2 day Free event took place in varying weather conditions with blue sky for about 90% of the Friday and low overcast mainly on the Saturday, however this didnt not ditract from a great flying display and static line up.
While waiting in the queue of morning traffic we were surprised to see that the air display had already began.....and it was only 9am!

The use of Flares by some of the display acts was something all to rarely seen on the UK airdisplay circuit and was fantastic to see so many acts including them.
From the outstanding Apache display of the RNLAF to the what seemed like endless amount of Flares that were being dispensed by the F-16 of the Belgian Air Force everyone seemed to want to have a go.

In summing up this airshow was a fantastic experience and I would recommend it to any like minded individuals.
From the seamless park and ride operation where there were always plenty of buses moving to the well laid out concessions and toilet facilities on the airfield it was the kind of airshow experience we all want to have, hassle free and not sitting in traffic for hours and all for the hefty price of 5 Euros to cover the park and ride charge...per car!

The hosts of the event put into a play a fanastic "Role Demo/Show of Force" which included Apache,Cougar and Chinook Helicopters,C-130 Hercules,KDC-10 tanker and 8 F-16s which all took part in carrying out attacks on the positions of the enemy on the airfield.
A really good performance on the Friday which was sadly reduced on the Saturday due to the low cloud. However the adaptation of replacing the F-16 strafing runs with the Apache helicopters were seemless.
