Harrier aircraft from RAF Cottesmore have provided the backbone of air operations in the Afghanistan theatre of operations.

There is no more an impressive sight than to see a aircraft like a Hercules being flown through the hillsides at low level!

Operated from RAF Lyneham these aircraft make full use of low level to get from A-B!

All these pictures were taken on visits to the Scottish Borders and Highlands.

Operating as low as 100ft in the training areas,the sight of these multi million pound aircraft at low level is quite breathtaking!

THE BORDERS

Perthshire and the Highlands offers some fantastic scenery and backdrops to low level shots,unfortunately the area covered is a lot more unpredictable than other parts of the country.

Pictured above is an F-16 Falcon of the RDAF.

The white painted tail is the official monogram of the Royal wedding of Crown Prince Frederick and Miss Mary Donaldson.

Generally limited to a height of 250ft there are locations within the UK where crews are allowed to operate as low as 100ft as shown by this Tornado from 617sqn "Dambusters" from RAF Lossiemouth.

Harrier Gr9 of 1 sqn

Tornado Gr4`s make up a large percentage of low level sorties north of the border with no less than 4 squadrons operating from RAF Lossiemouth.
